Toronto Fashion Week 2014
Held twice a year, Toronto Fashion Week is the largest event of its kind to be held in Canada. In March, the fall and winter collections of Canada's top fashion designers are showcased. In October, spring and summer collections are the focus. Since 2000, followers of fashion in Canada, as well as visitors from around the world, greatly anticipate the week's events in Toronto. It's a chance for North America's most cosmopolitan city to show off homegrown fashion talent, and it also gives Canadians their first look at International fashion trends. The event is centered at David Pecaut Square, which is located in front famous Metro Hall in downtown Toronto. This is just a few blocks from the heart of Toronto's Fashion District at the intersection of Queen Street and Spadina Avenue, where in addition to shopping visitors can find several upscale restaurants.
Formerly owned and operated by the Fashion Design Council of Canada, Toronto Fashion week was acquired in August of 2012 by IMG World, who also coordinates New York City's famous Fashion Week. Toronto's Fashion Week is the second largest in North America after New York City's. The list of over 60 prominent Canadian designers who have recently showcased at Toronto Fashion Week include, Caras Stephan, Mikael D, Cara Cheung, David Dixon, Caitlin Power, and Tatsuaki, just to name a few. Toronto Fashion Week, unlike similar events in other parts of the world, remains open to the public. More information, including an event calendar can be found at torontofashionweek.com
