Celebrate a Deliciously Global Labor Day in Toronto
Bringing the world to your doorstep over the holiday weekend, a pair of cultural festivals welcome guests to dance, taste, and celebrate summer’s end in the spirit of our global city. These delightfully diverse Toronto Labor Day events include the Hot & Spicy Food Festival at Harbourfront Centre, and the 34th Annual Hispanic Fiesta in Mel Lastman Square, both just a short drive or transit ride from our hotel. Here’s the scoop on both:
18th Annual Hot & Spicy Food Festival
Food unites us all – from the streets of India to the mountains of Latin America, one thing is for sure. Some like it HOT! Tickling tastebuds with dishes from across the globe for almost 20 years, this Toronto tradition features FREE samples, cooking competitions, chef demos, culinary classes, performance art, live DJs, dancing, and TONS of spicy foods for shopping in the Red Hot Market. Every year the festival is bigger than the last, as fiery food culture consumes the world’s palate. Some things to look forward to include:
- Vij’s Family Chicken ( 5th, 2-4pm) – Canadian celebrity Chef Vikram Vij prepares his utterly crave-worthy chicken curry, just the way his mother taught him – with a few personal touches, of course.
- The Arsenals ( 6th, 9:30-11pm) – Jamming a melange of Jamaican reggae, ska, and mid-century pop, this legendary six-piece band will have you dancing your way into the holiday.
34th Annual Hispanic Fiesta
More than 300 performers from over 20 nations promise to entertain at this celebration of all things Latin. Get ready to groove, and bring an appetite for the vast assortment of home-cooked food from Spanish paella to Peruvian ceviche.
