Remember sneaking away to watch horror movies as a kid, just to get scared silly for days? That’s exactly what’s in store for your at this Toronto Halloween film festival, just five minutes from our hotel. Restricted to ages 18 and up, it’s like no other movie event in the city, a terrifyingly fun cinema fear-fest for anyone who loves to jump in their seat. Few things can get you in the spirit of the season quite like a good scary movie, and the 10th Annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival has roughly 50 of the freshest, most twisted short and feature-length selections of the year.

Frightfully Good Times Nightly

Prefer sci-fi, action, or cult comedy over horror? There will be plenty of those, too. Just remember to get a babysitter for the kiddos – and plan on staying out late, as every ticket also includes entry to Pub After Dark (117 John St.), a nightly mixer with the cast and crew of screenings like:

Tales of Halloween

October 15th, 7 pm

The Opening Night Gala film features ten renowned filmmakers, united by a series of blood-curdling stories that take place on the same night.

The Hallow

October 15th, 9:45 pm

October 17th, 11:59 pm

This Irish film about a family that moves to the countryside was the spine-tingling talk of Sundance. Considered by many to be the year's most frightening offering at After Dark...

A Christmas Horror Story

October 17th, 9:30 pm

Dress as your best undead self for the beloved festival tradition of Zombie Night, featuring this holiday themed hit with a hilarious cameo from William Shatner.
