Santa Claus is coming to town, and he’s bringing plenty of friends. The Santa Parade in Toronto hits the streets downtown On November 18th, 2012. This Toronto Christmas tradition began over 100 years ago when live reindeer first towed Santa’s sleigh through the city. Spectators are in for a real treat each year. Expect to see over two dozen marching bands, thousands of costumed volunteers, and a resounding chorus of cheers from the good citizens of Toronto. The Toronto Santa Claus parade also features large animated floats and plenty of familiar Christmas characters.
In 2010, the Santa Clause Parade got together with its partners to launch the Toys for the North toy drive. Last Christmas, over $50,000 worth of goods were donated by Canadian toy companies and the general public. These toys were wrapped and delivered to almost 12,000 children. This drive has been successful in delivering toys to underprivileged children in remote communities throughout northern Canada. Those who donate over $100 will have the chance to see the name of a family member on the side of a float.
